Missionary Tongues In what way did the revival at Parham’s school in Topeka influence the belief about speaking in tongues? The idea that speaking in tongues was evidence of Spirit baptism came out of the revival at Charles Parham’s Bethel Bible School in Topeka, Kansas. In January 1901, Parham and most of his students claimed to speak in different languages.
